NEW YORK May 24, 2022 – Combate Global today announced four new fights to complete its fight card that will be headlined by the previously announced bantamweight non-title fight between reigning world champion David “The Black Spartan” Martinez (6-1) and Arturo “El Makako” Vergara (2-0 MMA; 3-1 Kickboxing), on Univision (11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT) and TUDN USA (11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT) on Sunday, May 29 from Miami, Fla.

The 23-year-old Martinez of Mexico City, Mexico had originally been slated to put his title on the line against 2021 “COPA COMBATE” tournament champion and Combate Global number one contender Frans “The Zulu Irishman” Mlambo (13-5) of Ireland, but the fight was scratched after Mlambo sustained an abdominal injury.

Vergara is a 27-year-old professional kickboxer turned unbeaten MMA upstart who hails from Los Andes, Chile and has taken up residence with Goat Shed Academy in Miami. He is coming off a stunning, nine-second TKO (flying knee strike) of Cody Schieve on May 6.

Among the four new bouts announced today for the Combate Global event on May 29 were the two featured, Univision and TUDN USA televised bouts that will precede the Martinez-Vergara matchup, including a featherweight (145 pounds) bout between Tino “No Mercy” Gilaranz (4-2) and Chris Boasso (3-2).

For the 29-year-old Gilaranz of Madrid, Spain, the fight represents an opportunity to return to Combate Global after a short stint with the organization between 2018 and 2019. Gilaranz is looking to extend his win streak to three consecutive bouts after scoring a first round (1:46) TKO (punches) on Nestor Santana last December 18.

Boasso, a 28-year-old resident of Miami, is a dangerous striker who has earned all three of his professional wins via (T)KO within two rounds. He is looking to rebound from a defeat at the hands of Miguel Gonzalez in Combate Global action last November 19.

In the other featured fight on Univision and TUDN USA, Marina Sanchez (0-0) of Barcelona, Spain will make her Combate Global debut and take on fellow former amateur kickboxing star Jade Jorand (0-2 MMA; 1-0 Kickboxing) of Bordeaux, France in a women’s 110-pound catchweight affair.

The preliminary bout card will be highlighted by a bantamweight fight between Alan “Beche” Cantu (9-8) of Monterrey, NL, Mexico via Phoenix, Ariz. and Pierre “The French Hawaiian” Daguzan (6-6) of Versailles, Yvelines, France via Honolulu, Hawaii.

Kicking off the card will be a featherweight (145 pounds) matchup between Justin”Slick J” Vasquez (7-2) of Miami and Mauricio Cubillo (10-5) of San Jose, Costa Rica.
