Miami, FLFrans “The Black Mamba” Mlambo believes he will become the first Combate Global Irish and double champion.

In December, he gained notoriety winning Copa Combate and taking home $100,000 in stellar fashion, despite the call to compete “coming out of nowhere” and this event being his first foray in a same-day tournament structure. Perhaps Combate Global fans might be seeing him in another Copa Combate in the near future.

“I had wanted to get on it for ages definitely some experience that I wouldn’t mind doing again,” he said.

Mlambo joined CG’s Instagram live account for a one-on-one interview.

Before considering any more tournaments, Mlambo will have to face David “The Black Spartan” Martinez in la Jaula for the Bantamweight strap this spring. A battle between two battle-tested warriors both are on a three fight-win streaks inside of la Jaula.

The Johannesburg-born Irishman also teased potential matchups that are very likely to come into fruition regardless of whether he wins the belt.

One fight Mlambo wants is a rematch against his Copa Combate finals dance partner, Kevin Cordero.

“100 percent. I will never say no to a fight. [Especially] any of [the fighters from Copa Combate]. He was a tough fighter and a fun fight. He made me let go a bit,” he added.

Mlambo also wants a rematch against fighters outside of last year’s Copa Combate.

“I have five losses in my record; there is no other fight that annoys me as much as my loss to Ricky Bandejas. I’d love to get him,” he said.

If Mlambo gets the belt, he might be able to make Combate Global history: not only becoming the first Irish champion, but he also wants to become the first double champion.

“I could definitely make flyweight,” said Mlambo, who concluded after reflecting on how easy his weight cuts are to make bantamweight. “For now, being champ-champ is not specifically in my plans, but you never know. It is an option.”

Mlambo is hoping 2022 will be a busy season for him.

“The more I fight, the more I get into it, the better Frans Mlambo you get. Get me five fights by the end of the year.”
