Miami, FLJavier “Blair” Reyes (12-3) put Colombia on the Mixed Martial Arts map by defeating former titleholder Luis “Iron Tiger” Gomez (9-5) by TKO in the first round at 4:42.

Reyes and Gomez were the main event of last night’s CG2022 May 20: Gomez vs Reyes fight card.

Reyes, who is enjoying a four fight win streak, defeated Gomez who has notable wins over the likes Sodiq Yusuff and has competed against Herbert Burns and Chase Hooper. Gomez won a title in another promotion.

The fight took place at 145 lbs, but Gomez came in a few pounds over, but that didn’t make a difference to Reyes who seemed to be in trouble in the first few minutes of the fight. Gomez went inside the pocket and took down Reyes with his favorite judo throw the ippon seoi nage. Then he used his grappling to control the fight and attempted an arm bar, however, Reyes was able to escape.

Reyes quickly was able to put the breaks on Gomez laying him on his back on full mount and ground and pounded himself to a victory.

For Reyes, this was a chance to put Colombia on the map as he did his entire training camp at his native South American country. An emotional Reyes celebrated his victory inside la jaula with a surprise visit from his family.

In the co-main event, Melissa Gomez (1-0) shocked Jharely Reyes (0-1) putting on a boxing clinic.

Gomez defeated Reyes by way of unanimous decision.

Reyes who came in as a favorite after much success in the amateur level, was met with great footwork and rapid combinations that left the youngster puzzled.

Throughout the fight, Gomez landed great combinations and moved away quickly. Reyes made about two takedown attempts but to no success.

In a featured flyweight bout, Ernesto Ibarra (7-1) defeated Pablo Caballero (8-9) by way of unanimous decision.

The fight started off slow with both fighters testing each other out. However, Ibarra’s standup technique and counter punching was enough to impress the judges.

It was until the second round until Caballero switched gears and focused on damaging Ibarra’s lead leg. Although it was bruised, Ibarra overcame the damage and won the fight.
