Straight off his flying knee victory over Alejandro Gavidia, Justin “Slick J” Vazquez (10-2) returns to la jaula to face off against an opponent he was scheduled to compete against in March in this week’s main event for COMBAET GLOBAL JULY 16: El Showdown airing live at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT Univision.

Vazquez meets Mexico’s Roberto Romero (6-2-1) in a three-round featherweight fight.

Plus, undefeated Adam Ortiz (5-0) meets Ismael Zamora (6-2) at 135 pounds and Naomi Young (0-1) returns to la jaula in search of her first professional victory against the debut of Dulce Vazquez (0-0) at 120 pounds.

Vazquez vs Romero

This fight was scheduled to take place in March, but Romero had VISA issues. Gavidia stepped in to replace him. Both men are riding on a five-fight win streak.

Vazquez has plans to continue his winning momentum after knocking our Gavidia in the first round back in March. The Freedom Fighter athlete counts on great striking and an aggressive style of fighting. He can get very creative when the opportunity is available.

He has been in battles with several fighters including Jair Perez.

Romero, also has been in wars including the 2021 “Fight of the year” against Zedekiah Montanez. Also, last year he had an exceptional fight against Ivan Tena.

He trains out of the Team Oyama camp and counts on great boxing. He is consistent and relentless. He had thrown close to 300 punches mid-way through the Tena fight.

He has a background in Lima Lama winning championships.

Expect this fight to go the distance and to be very entertaining. Both men will not hold back and eager to get a victory. Vazquez quicks would come in play to setup punches and take Romero to the ground. Romero loves to get in a brawl where he loves to trade shots.

Ortiz vs Zamora

Ortiz, who trains with APEX MMA, fought four times last year and has won two fights already in 2023. All his fights have been won by way of referee stoppage or technical knockout.

As for Zamora, he went 4-1 last year. He defeated Ramon Vizcarra back in March. The Bonebreaker fighter has great stand up, but like his rival, majority of his wins have been by stoppage or submission.

Expect a back-and-forth fight between these warriors. Both are fast and with the edge going to Zamora in the jiu jitsu but Ortiz has an aggressive ground and pound.

Young vs Vazquez

Young returns to action in search of a win. She lost to Maria Larios by technical knockout in the first round back in September. The Fusion X-Cell fighter has a strong physique with quick and strong hands.

Vazquez was born into martial arts. Her father competed in mixed martial arts and he trains her at the Demoledor Gym. She won a championship as an amateur and is ready to make her debut as a professional.

Both are aggressive striker. It will come down to who has the most stamina in this fight as more than likely it will go the distance unless Young gets Vazquez to the ground and works the ground and pound.
